Finally, I finished this project I was working on. It started when my friend, Lizzie, sent me great pictures of the Makhtesh desert she took herself and this project was based on that. (Thanks Lizzie :) )

Desertscape - Preliminary shots

Thanks to my friend Lizzie who sent me wonderful pictures of the Makhtesh. I was inspired by those desert-rocky pictures I decided to make my own wallpaper drawing ideas from those pictures. These are just preliminary shots, the final version will be much better! Hope you like them :)

Escapade

First of all, credits to my friend Lizzie to give me such a nice theme for my wallpaper

- "A beautiful indian princess was kidnapped and taken in a rainforest, leaving her scarf on a tree hoping her true love will come to rescue her"

Escapade, meaning evasion in french, shows a scarf on a tree left by a princess. I used a technique called DOF to put more focus on the scarf and blur everything else based on their distance from the camera. It enables me to make 'softer' wallpapers and a new kind of effect.

New test shots

These are new test shots. I upgraded my PCs and was able to make the scene more interesting. The final picture shows a piece of cloth and a pendant (dont know why the ruby isn't glowing... hmmmm) I just thought of adding an object and thought of physically modelling a cloth falling onto the branches. Then a friend suggested to make a rainbow (Thanks Lizzie :) ) so i made it. But its not a regular rainbow, i decided to make it a bit more natural and dispersed the light into seven colours everywhere the sun hits the waterfall mist (this idea came from Lizzie again thanks :) )

The following six pictures are test shots. They start off with simple lighting and raytraced shadows up to more advanced techniques like specular glows etc. Note these are only tests and are not the final images. Expect to see the final wallpaper soon.

Fig 1: Simple Lighting with no special effects.

Fig 2: Same as above but i took off the ground plants.

Fig 3: Added the soft skylight glow.

Fig 4: Moved the bushy flowery plant a bit to the focus and did a re-render.

Fig 5: Same picture as above but i added the specular glows. It gives more realism by glowing items that are sunlit and which would diffuse the high energy light into your eyes like real world.

Fig 6: Same scene but different view showing the pond/waterfall from a top perspective. Ideal for adding a person sitting on the rock with a fishing line. :)

Green Gems

Animation of 2 green gems colliding with all caustics effect on. I used the refractive index of diamond to cast the caustics (IoR 2.419) looks pretty good! Hope you like it :)

Flower Bloom_test01

My first test of a flower bloom :) I rendered it with Gelato 2.1 on my BFG GeForce 8800GTX just to get a quick preview of how it would look. Now that the animation is done, i am thinking of finetuning it and apply it in a nature scene or by a riverside and see how it looks. Final rendering is coming soon -- stay tuned

Priceless Sunset Version

Sunset versions of my priceless wallpaper -- dont know why but i made 3...

First one features a house on water and an eagle in the airs.

Second one is the same as my day version bu with different light settings to make it look as sunset.

Third version is a view from the top peaks directly into the sun.

Life's Eclipse

The sunrays sweeping across the plains while the moon goes away from the sun shows how different one can look when one's in a bad shape and in a good shape; there is always happiness after sadness and one should never give up...

Nice, calm water near a pier with small fishermen boats parked near it. The sun creates a really "soft" atmosphere and casts soft shadows on the grass...

I wonder whether there could be such a quiet place on this Earth... I would pay a fortune just to stand in the middle of such a scenery... :)

Ravaged by a severe storm, killing everything on its way. After a heavy rainfall, the plants start popping out...

The glow on the ground is due to the blistering sun shining hard on the wet soil... somehow I managed to make that effect... lol... Renaissance means Rebirth

Grand Valley 2

Grand Valley 2 is the same scene as the previous one but this time the render shot was taken at a higher altitude. The feature I found really nice were those overblown white spots on the mountains, from a strong sunlight source. This view reminds me of certain shots in a trailer for an upcoming PC game called Crysis. I would certainly recommend this game to people like me, have a craze for modelling outdoor scenes and forests.

Grand Valley, this time I got the shaders right for the mountains and it looks very real. I wanted to make a foggy valley with a lot of mist and perhaps more trees. And no, this isn't a picture... lol :)

I got the idea from a game called STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. An excellent game and has very moody atmospheres.

This garden features over 600 plants and 28 trees. I had to tweak it a bit in the post process stage to make it look richer in colour and add some sunlight blooming.

Invasion

My first matte painting combined with 3D technology. The theme is about an invasion from an unknown planet who've settle down on Earth to wreak chaos.

The sky has been blackened by explosions, nuclear and chemical plants have popped up everywhere, turning Earth into a nuclear era...

A beautifully decorated river scene, with dead tree trunks in the middle of the river in a peaceful atmosphere...

I'm on the track but not exatly what i wanted to. :) Could have added a few more trees, some birds and perhaps a wooden bridge, just to increase realism...

My main idea behind this wallpaper was to create a riverbed and lots of plants, weeds and grass to make a nice and natural scenery.

Unfortunately at that time, my hardware was too weak. That was the best i could squeeze out from my old computer.

My very first program with DirectX!

Its been ages since i am trying to learn programming with directX by myself. Recently, i bought a book on game programming and set to work.

It sure looks awful compared to my previous renders, but this one is being rendered in realtime by the graphics card in the PC. This is how games are being rendered.

You might be working with high end FX such as HDR/Subsurface scattering etc, but realtime applications can get you on all fours!

This project is my first step towards game programming. Basically, the tutorial was about rendering a triangle. But I went a bit further and modified the code a bit to render two triangles. Then i placed them in such a way for it to look like a quad. Might be simple but i was overjoyed when it worked! :) I will post more of them.

Blurry Lake

This render took me over 8 hours! Its all due to the extremely blurry water shader i used for the lake.

It creates a sense of non photorealistic rendering. I usually prefer these types of render but most of the time, these are the ones that consume a lot of processing time.

A New Horizon

This is my second post. This one is my most recent wallpaper, A New Horizon. With this wallpaper, i have breached a new milestone of 3 trillion polygons. Polygon-wise, this one is the heaviest scene i ever made.

Welcome to my first post. I am a student and have a great passion for 3d animation/graphics. The following images are samples of my work. I do not work for anyone, i made all of them just for fun and non-commercial work. I have learnt everything by myself and i'm still learning.

This image (The Eye) is a render of the human eye. I have made this thanks to the excellent free tutorial at Gnomon Workshop on creating photorealistic eyes. The lighting was done through an HDR map. I am not a pro, nor a veterran, just an amateur. Its very hard to learn these things by yourself, but i took the challenge and thanks to many tutorials available on the web, i am now able to make some decent stuff.
